Server Administrator's - Code Of Conduct
« Thread Started on Mar 27, 2008, 4:36pm »

Listed below is the [AE] clan's established policy governing administrative action taken upon players by it's members.

If you have admin action taken against you that was not done in accordance to this policy it is requested that you contact 82694 & 417 through the private message system of this forum in regards to it.

[AE] Server Admin's Code of Conduct

1) Before taking action against a player, the server admin needs to note the players information first (using "status" in the console). That information will then in turn need to be written down so that after you have finished playing the information can be reported on the designated forum if a permanent ban. The information required for the forum post is as follows:
Date & Time of Incident:
Player's Name:
Player's STEAM ID and/or IP address:
Administrative Action Taken (to include how long):
Detailed Reason:

2) No server admin should take administrative action against another player without warning them first!

This process should be done in the form of on the third strike your out.

When a player does something that denotes action being taken against them it should go like this: 1st they are warned via a regular chat message to stop, 2nd if they continue after being instructed to stop, they are to be warned again using the console say announcement, and 3rd if the player in question continues to disregard the warnings and continues their actions, then you are to announce via console say that the player is being kicked/banned from the server for whatever reason and then the kick/ban command is to be used on them in order to remove them from the server.

If a kicked player comes back into the server immediately again and continues it again, they are to be banned from the server for a minimum of one week (or more depending on the severity of the original offense).

3) If a player on the server should require administrative action taken against them, it should be only for things like: cheating, attempting to bring down the server using a hack, continuously advertising/recruiting, being inactive on the server for more than five minutes, failure to adhere to admins requests, conducts any type of action that repeatedly or continuously interrupts game play, or uses racist/derogatory terms after being asked to stop.

The only admin commands that administrators should regularly use are: to change a map or kick/ban a player.
A ban should always be done for a specified time limit unless the person is trying to bring down the server (in which they are to be banned permanently without warning) or are definately using a cheat/exploit.

When banning for use of scripts/explots/cheats if there are other [AE] members on the server have them spectate the player in question and give their input.

If a player is to banned it should be one of the following time limits: 1440 (1 day ban), 10080 (1 week ban), 20160 (2 week ban), 4032 (1 month ban), 120960 (3 month ban) and 241920 (6 month ban) -- depending on the severity of the offense.

4) If a server administrator suspects someone of cheating/exploiting/scripting before taking any action it is REQUIRED that they watch them for a minimum of 5 minutes in spectator mode to determine if they are actually cheating. If the person in question appears to be cheating, but you can't tell for sure, ask other [AE] members on the server, if available, to spectate the player in question also.

If an anti_cheat plug-in running on the server announces someone is cheating and it doesn't ban them, then the suspected cheater is to be immediately banned from the server and an announcement is to be made to everyone on the server stating that the player was banned for cheating.

5) All other admin commands available should only be used under special circumstances and with good justification. There are several commands that some admins have access to that should NEVER be used as a form of administrative action against a player or team.

6) Example situations in which to NOT take administrative action against a player are as follows: for being a newbie and not knowing anything or how to play, for asking repetitive questions, for making a few derogatory comments about our community (everyone is entitled to limited free speech when it comes to our community specifically), for shooting their team members, for being dumb or ignorant, for whining, for taking flag caps that are not theirs and many more ...

7) As an [AE] server admin you must show a higher level of common decency than you would as a regular player to the players on our server(s). Be considerate of the newbies and tolerate them because, we where all one once. Server admin's need to give every player the same level of respect as you would a person you personally know. Mainly because they don't have to play on our server(s)! If a player gets out of line, then warn them to straighten up their act and then if they don't take the necessary action against them.

What you do on our server(s) as a server admin directly effects the clans reputation and you will loose your admin privileges if your admin actions disgrace the clan.

8) Some example reasons for using administrative action against a player are: using any form of a cheat/hack/exploit, holding the flag for long periods of time after being asked to cap it over and over, any type of action that continuously disrupts game play and not doing as instructed by an admin after being asked repeatedly.

9) Server admins are requested to refrain from using the server side announcements for personal statements. Especially if they are used in a way that could be interpreted as derogatory towards the players in general on the server. It's use is strictly intended for notification to players on the server and promoting server related events.

All complaints of server admin abuse will be thoroughly investigated via the servers logs and corresponding with the complainant. Then action will be taken against the admin if they have failed to follow the above Server Admin's Code of Conduct (in the form of admin rights suspension) or the player in question if they lied concerning the incident when they where taken action against (the player will be permanently banned).

This Server Admin's Code of Conduct is subject to change as additional input is made by it's server admin and unique situations that arise on the servers that denote new conduct guidelines to be composed. Admins will need to make sure to check it regularly for any updates or additions because of this.
